Über den Autor Joseph Joubert

Joseph Joubert, 1754 in Montignac an der Dordogne geboren, studierte in Toulouse Recht und Altertumswissenschaften, bevor er 1778 nach Paris zog, wo er sich dem Kreis um Denis Diderot anschloss. Lange Zeit ihr Befürworter legte er bald nach der Revolution alle erlangten Ämter ab und zog sich nach Villeneuve zurück. Sein Leben lang notierte er seine präzisen Beschreibungen der Menschen in Briefen und kleinen Heften. Nach seinem Tod 1824 übergab seine Witwe diese Notizen an François-René de Chateaubriand.
