Erik Homburger Erikson, 1902 in Frankfurt a. M. geboren, emigrierte 1933 in die USA. Er war Psychoanalytiker und Professor in Berkeley und Harvard. Berühmt wurde er mit seinen Psychobiographien über Mahatma Gandhi und Martin Luther. 1970 erhielt er den Pulitzer-Preis. Er starb 1994 in den USA.
