Craig Calhoun ist Professor für Sozialwissenschaften an der Arizona State University in Phoenix. Zuvor war er Direktor der London School of Economics and Political Science und Präsident des Social Science Research Council. Dilip Parameshwar Gaonkar ist Direktor des Zentrums für Transkulturelle Studien und Professor für Rhetorik und öffentliche Kultur an der Northwestern University in Evanston. Charles Taylor ist emeritierter Professor für Philosophie an der McGill University in Montreal und einer der einflussreichsten Sozialphilosophen der Gegenwart. Geboren 1931 in Kanada, studierte er an der McGill University und an der Universität Oxford, wo er 1961 seinen Ph.D. erwarb. Danach kehrte er nach Montreal zurück und lehrte dort bis zu seiner Emeritierung politische Philosophie. Er hat bahnbrechende Studien vorgelegt, u.a. zu Hegel sowie zum Kommunitarismus, Säkularismus und Multikulturalismus. Charles Taylor nahm Gastprofessuren u.a. an den Universitäten von Oxford, Princeton, Berkeley, an der J.W. Goethe-Universität Frankfurt und der Hebrew University Jerusalem wahr. 1997 erhielt er den Hegel-Preis der Stadt Stuttgart und 2007 den Templeton-Preis (für Ein säkulares Zeitalter ), 2008 wurde er für sein Lebenswerk mit dem Kyoto-Preis ausgezeichnet, der als »Philosophie-Nobelpreis« gilt. Charles Taylor war zudem Mitglied der britischen Labour-Partei und kandidierte für das kanadische Unterhaus.
