Über den Autor James Fenimore Cooper

James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) stammte aus einer wohlhabenden Quäkerfamilie, studierte in Yale und begann nach Studienabbruch eine Karriere als Seeoffizier bei der Navy, bis er durch eine Erbschaft finanziell unabhängig wurde, heiratete und zu schreiben begann. Weltruhm erlangte er vor allem durch seine fünf "Lederstrumpf"-Romane; doch gilt er auch als Erfinder des Seeromans, dessen Werke nicht zuletzt Herman Melville und Joseph Conrad beeinflussten. Alexander Pechmann, geboren 1968 in Wien, studierte Soziologie, Psychologie sowie englische und amerikanische Literaturwissenschaft. Er arbeitet als freier Autor, Herausgeber und Übersetzer und übertrug u. a. Werke von Mary Shelley, W. B. Yeats und Nathaniel Hawthorne ins Deutsche. Für mare übersetzte er zuletzt Herman Melvilles "John Marr" (2013).
