Joyce Carol Oates wurde 1938 in Lockport, New York geboren. Sie zählt zu den bedeutendsten amerikanischen Autorinnen der Gegenwart. Für ihre zahlreichen Romane und Erzählungen wurde sie mehrfach ausgezeichnet, unter anderem mit dem National Book Award. 2019 erhielt sie den Jerusalem Prize. Joyce Carol Oates lebt in Princeton, New Jersey, wo sie Literatur unterrichtet.Geboren in Gera. Übersetzt nach einem Studium der Anglistik und Germanistik seit 35 Jahren aus dem Englischen. Sie hat bisher ca. 150 Werke aus den Gattungen Prosa, Lyrik, Essay und Hörspiel übertragen, unter anderem von Anne Sexton, Joyce Carol Oates, Ali Smith, James Kelman, Paul Harding und Steven Bloom. Für ihre Arbeit wurde sie mehrfach mit Stipendien des Literarischen Colloquiums Berlin, des Landes Baden-Württemberg und des Landes Niedersachsen ausgezeichnet. Sie lebt in Celle.
