Frederick Forsyth, geboren 1938 in Ashford/Kent, war mit 19 Jahren der jüngste Pilot der Royal Air Force. Später arbeitete er für die Eastern Daily Press in Norfolk und die Agentur Reuters. 1965 ging Forsyth zur BBC. Seine Erfahrungen aus dem Journalismus verarbeitete er in Romanen.
