Berühmt machte ihn allerdings seine 1816 erstmals erschienene Erzählung Adolphe, in der er u. a. seine turbulente Liebschaft mit Madame de Staël verarbeitete. Erich Wolfgang Skwara, 1948 in Salzburg geboren, ist Schriftsteller, Lyriker, Essayist und übersetzt aus dem Englischen und Französischen. Er ist Professor emeritus für Kulturwissenschaft und Komparatistik an der San Diego State University. 2019 erschien sein Roman Mare Nostrum oder Ein Bahnhof für jene, die ankommen (Edition Korrespondenzen).
