Wolfgang Schivelbusch, geboren 1941 in Berlin, studierte Literaturwissenschaft, Philosophie und Soziologie in Frankfurt am Main. Nach vier Jahrzehnten zwischen New York und Deutschland lebte er seit 2013 als freier Autor in Berlin. 2003 erhielt er den Heinrich-Mann-Preis der Akademie der Künste zu Berlin, 2013 den Lessing-Preis der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg. Schivelbusch starb im März 2023.
