Robert Cohen, geboren 1941 in Zürich, lebt seit 1980 in den USA. Vor der Hinwendung zur Germanistik studierte er an der staatlichen Filmhochschule in Paris, bis 2012 lehrte er deutsche Literatur an der New York University. Er verfasste zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Arbeiten zur deutschen Literatur des 20. Jahrhunderts, gab Werke von Peter Weiss und Anna Seghers sowie den Gefängnis- und KZ-Briefwechsel von Olga Benario heraus.
